Loco Cat

Free  ·  one full-screen ad per app opening, removable with a one-time purchase

Cats hunt things that move unpredictably and disappear before they can be caught. Loco Cat does exactly that on a phone or tablet screen, at speeds and contrast levels a cat's eye can actually follow. Link up to four devices on the same Wi-Fi and the hunt spreads across the room: the prey vanishes from one screen and turns up on another, so your cat has to go and find it.

What it does

Features
  • Prey that behaves like prey. Movement that pauses, darts and changes direction, instead of drifting predictably across the screen. Each scene has its own movement personality, background and catch radius.
Koi pond scene, with fish swimming across a deep blue background
Bird scene, with a blue bird flying across a dark background
  • Nine scenes, each with its own sound. Laser (pew), fly (bzzz), mouse (chirp), bird (tweet), ribbon (swish), bug swarm (skitter), koi pond (plop), washer (rumble) and pinball (ding).

  • Adjustable to your cat. Prey size in three steps and prey speed in three steps, changed at any time without leaving the game.
Prey size set to medium and prey speed set to slow
  • Scene changes that keep a bored cat interested. Every touch can switch to another prey, and the scene can rotate automatically every two minutes — in multi-device play too. Pinball is excluded from touch switching.
Toggles for change scene on touch and change scene every 2 minutes
  • Its own volume control. The slider changes only the app's own sounds — your phone's volume stays as it is.
Volume slider at 100 percent, affecting only the app's own sounds
  • Paw-proof. Play mode locks the screen for your cat — you unlock it by holding the paw for a second and dragging it to the lock. Optionally the app also blocks home, recents and the notification shade during play; Android asks you to confirm pinning each time, so this is off by default. Rotating the device does not interrupt play either — the game keeps running.
Lock the screen for cats toggle, off by default
  • Multi-device play over Wi-Fi. Link up to four devices on the same network. The prey lives on one screen at a time for a while, disappears everywhere for a few seconds, then reappears on a different device — so a cat chases it from one screen to the next. Pinball is not available in multi-device play. Everything stays on your own network.

  • Ads that stay out of the way. One full-screen ad after the first game of each app opening, never during play. A single one-off purchase removes it for good.
  • Works offline. No account, nothing to sign into, no FitEngineering server.

A note on screens. Claws and glass are not friends. A screen protector is a good idea, and a tablet you do not mind scratching is a better one.
